For the first time ever, as a part of our strategic plan, Ohio Rotary District 6630 is sponsoring a District-wide service project!

We have collaborated with the local park systems to coordinate a project serving most of the counties in our Northeast Ohio District. The project took place primarily over two Saturdays, April 23 (Earth Day) and April 30th (Arbor Day) with other days available in the future.

The Medina 9/11 Memorial, which is located beside Medina Fire Station No. 1 at 300 W. Reagan Parkway, includes a steel beam from one of the World Trade Center towers that collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001.

Medina Rotarian Bill Cohen and former Medina Mayor Jane Leaver had the vision to bring a piece of the fallen towers to Medina. The heavy steel beam had been stored at the Standard Welding warehouse waiting to be placed in a proper memorial.  Dr. Kelly Low, working with the full support of the Medina Rotary Club and the City, shared a common vision and built a community partnership to make the Medina 911 Memorial Park a reality.

The Memorial is now open for the public to visit. A picnic pavilion and benches are part of the small park surrounding the memorial. Forty boxwood shrubs symbolize the 40 passengers and crew members who died on UAL Flight 93.
